There are a few good reasons why the green city on the River Elbe is said to be one of the most beautiful cities in Germany. Everybody who has visited Hamburg is enthusiastic about its flair and maritime charms. Whether it is the Elbe, Alster, HafenCity (Harbour City), Speicherstadt (Warehouse City), the Fish Market or the Reeperbahn – something new can be discovered, experienced and marveled every day.

Lots of nature and visionary projects make Hamburg a model region for sustainable urban development cities in Europe. With the "Green Capital 2011" award, Hamburg was crowned the most environmentally friendly city in Europe. And for good reasons. One of them is that Hamburg managed to significantly reduce its CO2 emissions despite economic growth. Visionary approaches for a green metropolis with a high quality of life can be found in many areas – not least in the projects of the International Building Exhibition (IBA) or the 2013 International Garden Show (IGS) on the Elbe island of Wilhelmsburg. The city wants to continue to grow, though not at the expense of valuable green spaces or the climate, but with concepts that are environmentally friendly and sustainable.
